Fantasy-based NFT game creator Sorare has expanded upon its existing portfolio with the launch of its new National Basketball Association (NBA) fantasy basketball game.
The Sorare platform already boasts NFT fantasy games covering Major League Baseball (MLB), American Football and soccer with the addition of basketball helping it reach more people than ever.
In a statement the NBA officially announced the partnership with Sorare in what is the organisation’s first NFT fantasy partner as it too looks to capitalise on new revenue streams.
Sorare head of business development Michael Meltzer said: “This is our third sport, alongside football and MLB and we’re really excited about this sport, as securing the NBA was one of the top goals of the company from the day that I joined a year ago.
“Just given the star power of NBA players, it fits within the global nature of our product and international community that we have in over 185 countries.”
NBA fans wanting to get involved with Sorare’s NFT fantasy game can look forward to a wide range of digital cards to collect including, rares, super rares and unique players.
Players can choose to simply collect and trade the NFTs or go head-to-head with other users in a battle to be the very best as they bid to build their dream NBA team.
Meltzer added: “We’ve had a ton of respect for the NBA players who have been at the forefront of innovation and technology for a number of years.
“We look at NFTs as an underlying technology, not a market. And so, we think there are lots of different unique use cases and applications. Our fantasy sports entertainment product leverages blockchain to bring ownership to the game.
“We think that’s completely different than anything that’s been on the market, particularly with the NBA, whether in Web three or elsewhere.”
