Samuel Dobson steps down from Bitcoin Core team

Bitcoin (BTC) developer Samuel Dobson has announced that he will be retiring from the Bitcoin Core team.

Dobson, who has been one of the most prominent names in the community, and helped spearhead significant upgrades, confirmed that he would no longer have the time to work on the project, as he nears the end of his PhD.

He thanked the team and John Pfeffer, a backer of Dobson’s work, during his time with the Bitcoin Core team.

In the series of tweets announcing his decision, Dobson gave no detail over whether he would be returning to work on BTC in any capacity later on.

However, when he spoke to Cointelegraph he said he was not intending on developing or working on other cryptocurrencies.

Dobson also commented that the team has come a long way since the original concept by Satoshi (unveiled recently as Craig Wright) was brought forward.

As an open-source project, Bitcoin Core has been focused on keeping the currency decentralized at a time when global governments are embracing a more regulated approach.

Dobson is not the only person to step down from his position recently. Two maintainers retired earlier this year, citing personal and career plans as their reasons.

While BTC may have lost some talent, it has added some as well. The year has been particularly good for the blockchain and currency, which debuted as a public tender in El Salvador.
