COVID-19 and social distancing has led to the cancellation of the majority of global sports in the past month, and although some competitions are starting to return, normality is unlikely to return for a long time yet.
Cryptocurrency and blockchain bookmakers have tried to deal with the challenge in various ways. We've seen the likes of Wagerr and Sportsbet.io add a variety of new content to bolster a somewhat diminished offering, with esports being one vertical that's seen relative success of late due to its isolated nature and global fan base. Virtual sports have also become more prominent as bookmakers look to recreate the thrill of popular sports in a digital manner. Likewise, various forms of prop betting has appeared on fluctuations in cryptocurrency price.
But do any of these have an appeal to those who yearn for quality, real-time sports betting action? Are players refraining from betting and holding onto their bitcoin, or are sports betting alternatives attracting a new audience and seeing a resurgence?
