Oval joins hands with Crypto.com to enable crypto payments

The collaboration will allow patrons to make purchases at various outlets within the stadium

Adelaide’s Oval, a prominent sports venue in Australia, has teamed up with Crypto.com to introduce cryptocurrency payments, marking a significant milestone in the country's sports arena.

Starting from today's AFL's Gather Round event, patrons attending sports matches and concerts at Adelaide Oval can now utilize Crypto.com Pay, the exchange's payment solution, to make purchases at various food and beverage outlets within the stadium.

Under this collaboration, DataMesh, a leading provider of payment terminals, is facilitating the integration of crypto payments at Adelaide Oval. This initiative, a first of its kind in Australia, aims to enhance the convenience and flexibility of payment options available to sports fans and concert-goers.

Customers opting to pay with cryptocurrency will select Crypto.com Pay as their preferred payment method during checkout, generating a dynamic QR code on the merchant terminal. They can then scan this code using their Crypto.com App and choose their preferred cryptocurrency for the transaction.

To celebrate the launch, the first 1,000 transactions during the Gather Round event will receive a cashback of AUD$10. Further promotions are planned throughout the 2024 Toyota AFL Premiership Season and during Adelaide Crows' home games.

Karl Mohan, the general manager for APAC at Crypto.com, emphasized the company's commitment to innovation, stating that the payment technology introduced by Crypto.com at Adelaide Oval is user-friendly for both the merchant and customer and highly scalable.

Tim Silvers, the CEO of Adelaide Crows, expressed excitement about the partnership, emphasizing the club's dedication to providing its supporters with innovative offerings. Silvers stated that whether it was membership offerings or purchasing food and beverage on game day, they also wanted to give their supporters the opportunity to choose what best suited them.

Mark Nagy, CEO of DataMesh, reiterated the company's mission to bridge the gap between traditional payments and digital currencies, empowering consumers with seamless and secure cryptocurrency transactions.

This collaboration follows Crypto.com's recent partnership with DataMesh and OTR to introduce Australia's first in-store cryptocurrency payment system across numerous retail outlets.

Back in December, Crypto.com also obtained an Electronic Money Institution license from the UK's Financial Conduct Authority, enabling the exchange to offer localized digital currency products. This registration reflected Crypto.com’s commitment to responsible innovation and collaboration with regulatory authorities in key markets like the UK and Singapore.

With over 80 million customers worldwide, Crypto.com remains committed to accelerating the adoption of cryptocurrency through innovative solutions, bringing the vision of “Cryptocurrency in Every Wallet™” closer to reality.
