The notorious founder of scam cryptocurrency OneCoin Dr Ruja Ignatova has been added to Europe’s list of it most wanted people.

The scammer disappeared after being accused of stealing around $5bn from investors back in 2017 and not been seen since she boarded a flight to Athens.

The European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation, Europol, has offered a reward of up to €5000.

According to a post on Europe’s Most Wanted website: “The award and distribution will be decided under the exclusion of legal action. This reward is intended exclusively for private individuals and not for public officials whose professional duties include the prosecution of criminal offences”.

Ignatova launched OneCoin back in 2014 with the promise of it being a “Bitcoin killer”. She solicited investments from investors in 175 different countries before it was identified as a Ponzi scheme three years later.

During the investigation, documents were leaked to the BBC. It was revealed that not only did OneCoin not even obtain a blockchain, but in the first few months of 2016 investors bought around €30,000,000 of the worthless coin.

The BBC discussed Ignatova and her billion-pound scam in a podcast named ‘The Missing CryptoQueen’ which is expected to be made into a TV series.

In 2019, OneCoin lawyer Mark Scott was found guilty by the US District Court in Manhattan of conspiracy to commit money laundering and bank fraud.

Many people affiliated with Ignatova and OneCoin have faced charges, everyone but Ignatova. Even her brother Konstantin pleaded guilty to fraud and money laundering.
