Nike patents digital “Just Do It” slogan

Global sports footwear and apparel manufacturer Nike is joining the quest to establish a presence in the metaverse, as the hype for digital worlds continues to build up.

According to seven applications to the US Patent and Trademark Office on Wednesday, Nike has patented its “Just Do It” slogan, which could now be brought to the digital world of online games and metaverses.

Other patented goods, include the “Air Jordan” and “Jumpman” logos, among others.

Trademark attorney Josh Gerben said: “Nike is protecting their trademarks for this new era”.

In other words, Nike is staying one step ahead of developments. Chances are that more netizens will be joining metaverses over the next years, especially with Facebook dropping its name to rebrand as Meta and introducing its own metaverse project.

Nike is not coy about its metaverse aspirations. The filings of these patents is accompanied by job postings where the company is looking for “virtual material designers”, or metaverse programmers in layman’s terms.

The company is looking to safeguard its intellectual property in the coming virtual worlds that are slowly becoming a more permanent part of the crypto and digital landscape.

As Nike makes sure to protect its brands it’s also looking for new ways to bring together its physical assets to the digital world. There have been many efforts to establish a metaverse in the past, and many more efforts have begun since the concept was first broached.

Atari is just one of the big names planning to launch its own digital world in which it will invite consumers.
