YouTuber Kidnapped After Bad Crypto Advice

A Youtuber was kidnapped for giving incorrect advice to an investor. Cryptocurrency trading is not an easy mission. Many people who become enthusiasts of digital currencies join the space for quick returns on their investments.

The number of different currencies and the currently popularised token types can leave new investors scratching their heads. Many enthusiasts do not have any background in trading and can make risky decisions.

YouTubers have made their fame in cryptocurrency by recommending trending coins, however, their advice is not always the best. A lot of them have been called out for being paid to promote tokens that are bad to outright scams.

Recently one YouTuber was sued for their bad advice that led to the loss of money. A story released recently had a similar issue but instead of approaching it legally, they went vigilante.

Ho Ngoc Tai is a Vietnamese businessman who put too much faith into the hands of a YouTuber. In 2018, when the prices of Bitcoin were low, Tai was looking for a way to make a good return on his investment.

Following the advice of an influencer named Le, Tai sold 1,000 Bitcoin ($56.7m) and purchased tokens that he was told would become the next big thing. Things did not go according to plan and Tai lost everything he had.

Financial loss can be one of the most painful experiences and can lead to misjudgment. This was the case with Tai, who after the bad trade hired a private investigator for $1000 to track down the influencer Le.

Tai and the private investigator found Le in Ho Chi Minh City in his apartment. When they arrived, Tai’s accomplice used his motorbike as a weapon, driving it into Le’s car in an aim to lure him out and kidnap him. Sensing danger, instead of stopping, Le drove away from the scene.

Five days later Tai intercepted Le who was having dinner with his family. He issued threats to all of them and demanded that Le open up his cryptocurrency wallet and return the money he had lost in the trades.

Tai kidnapped Le and held him in custody for two hours forcing the young man to get his brother to open his cryptocurrency accounts and transfer the money. Le's brother notified authorities of the kidnapping and Tai shortly fled the scene, attempting to cover his tracks by stealing their phones.

He was later arrested. Since then Le has reported that over 168 Bitcoin was stolen from him as well as other assets. Tai and his accomplice are now arrested and could be facing a maximum sentence of life in prison.

A lesson to learn from the growing bitcoin popularity is to never invest more than you can lose, and never trust an influencer or a Youtuber for investment advice. Do your own research and take caution.
