Turkish football club Trabzonspor is the latest sports team to build blockchain into its fan offering. Signing with Socios.com, the club will now offer $TRA tokens, available via the Chiliz exchange, which will allow fans to vote and gain rewards when interacting.
The announcement claims holders of the tokens who engage with the club will be able to fight it out to meet players and gain VIP status at certain matches.
Trabzonspor’s general manager, Sinan Zengin was excited about the latest announcement, and stated:
“This collaboration will allow us to implement developments, marketing opportunities, and other innovations in the digital world. I am sure that our fans will make the slogan ‘Everywhere is Trabzon For Us' even more meaningful with their interest in the $TRA Fan Token Offering, which we will start next month.”
Sport has often been slow to adapt to new technologies but it’s apparent that many are taking to blockchain as a future revenue stream and means to engage new players.
Cryptocurrency already plays a major part in sports betting. Sportsbet.io, part of the Coingaming Group, sponsor Premier League side Southampton, as well as Championship outfit Watford, and offer a varied, in-depth sports betting experience.
