Team Liquid has formed a new alliance with crypto exchange Coinbase, as the influence of crypto on esports continues.
The partnership marks another major tie-up between an esports powerhouse and a crypto entity after FTX, another exchange, bought the naming rights from Team SoloMid for $210m.
Moving forward, the two companies will collaborate on numerous projects that seek to boost fan experience as well as leverage Coinbase’s branding across social media channels.
Team Liquid’s official store will feature a crypto cashout feature, allowing fans to purchase directly in crypto by buying relevant digital assets directly from Coinbase.
Coinbase’s logo will also appear on Team Liquid’s player jerseys and Coinbase will seek to create a number of themed experiences to add value to fans.
This will include more branding and activations through the dedicated Team Liquid mobile app as well as the inaugural Team Liquid Scouting Combine.
Team Liquid CEO Steve Arhancet said that Coinbase made a fantastic part of the team and was precisely the type of partner to provide the team with the crypto infrastructure it was after. “For us, those qualities were absolute requirements. And the more we learned about Coinbase, the more certain we became that this was the partner we were looking for”, he said.
The idea, Arhancet said, is to “demystify” crypto for Team Liquid fans. Coinbase is moving quickly on esports as the company has already signed up several prominent partnerships including, with Evil Geniuses and BIG, two established esports organizations. Previously, Evil Geniuses teamed up with Bitcasino.io.
