Salesforce announces NFT Cloud

Salesforce has announced the launch of its NFT Cloud, a platform to help businesses mint and sell NFT assets.

In the expanding world of NFTs and the metaverse, NFT Cloud offers a helping hand in the world of Web3.

The platform is hoped to become a stepping stone for brands to engage with online communities and extract data from their offerings.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Salesforce’s senior VP of emerging technology Adam Caplan explained that when it comes to the use of NFTs, brands are more than likely to use the tokens for engagement as opposed to collectibles. “The art should look great. But that’s not really the point”, he said.

Salesforce NFT Cloud is a pilot program available to a limited number of customers. However, it will be offered to a wider range of individuals in October.

The website currently does not specify the chosen blockchain platform it will use to mint the NFTs, but it will not operate or support any blockchain that uses an energy-intensive proof-of-work (PoW) consensus model. This is mainly due to the feedback from customers voicing their environmental concerns.

As Ethereum (ETH) uses a proof-of-work consensus, the second-largest cryptocurrency worldwide will be scrapped from the new platform.

Although the decentralized blockchain is currently in the process of switching to a proof-of-stake (PoS) model, for now, there is no firm decision on when to bring ETH into play with Salesforce.
