Ronin hackers have moved funds

The hackers behind the $625m Ronin bridge exploit are thought to have moved some of the stolen funds from Ethereum (ETH) to Bitcoin (BTC) using sanctioned privacy mixers to continue hiding their identities.

A researcher at security firm SlowMist took to Twitter to make the announcement under the handle ‘blitezero’.

“I've been tracking the stolen funds on Ronin Bridge. I've noticed that Ronin hackers have transferred all of their funds to the BTC network. Most of the funds have been deposited to mixers (ChipMixer, Blender)”, it read.

In March, the hacker drained millions from the publisher of Axie Infinity Sky Mavis’s treasury. The Axie DAO was exploited by the hackers who stole around 173,000 ETH and 25.5m USDC.

To undergo the illicit activity, the attacker used hacked private keys to forge fake withdrawals from Ronin bridge across two transactions.

“As of now, the vast majority of the Ronin hacker's ETH funds have been deposited to Tornado Cash, and ~6,250 Ether deposited to exchanges(such as Huobi, FTX, or Cryptocom)”, continued the thread.

More than 113,000 of the previous stolen ETH that was sent to Tornado Cash was additionally converted to BTC. This was then transferred from ETH to BTC before finally being redeemed for spot BTC.
