An auction featuring five different tokenized cards titled the “Rob Gronkowski Championship Series NFT Collection” pulled in $1.8m in initial sales last week.
The cards that were put up for sale, via NFT digital marketplace OpenSea, featured a one-of-a-kind token and four NFTs, with 87 copies of each put up for sale during the auction from March 11 through March 13. Gronkowski has offered to sign for the NFTs, adding collector's value.
The “GRONK Career Highlight Refactor Card,” one of the available NFTs for sale, is a collage with all the rest of the available merchandise and the athlete's signature. The person who has purchased the token will have the opportunity to meet Gronkowski in person as well as enjoy VIP tickets to Gronkowski's beach party event. The purchaser will also get two tickets to one of Gronkowski's NFL games in 2021.
The auction started slow, with initial bids starting at $110, but the numbers quickly soared to between $150,000 and $400,000 only two hours after the auction had started. The token was purchased for $430,000 at the time of sale. A single buyer apparently secured 80 NFTs and there are already reports that some of the purchased NFTs are being traded and sold on OpenSea's secondary market.
Numerous NFT sales have turned successful in recent weeks, including artist Grimes’ own tokens, those of Micah Johnson and even the Win.Crypto NFT. Meanwhile, crypto casinos are also surging in popularity.
