Polygon invests amount in Decentral Games

Blockchain games developer Polygon has invested in Decentral Games in a further boost to play-to-earn gaming.

The exact terms of the deal remain undisclosed, as Polygon invests in Decentral Games and its proprietary gaming decentralized organization known simply as DAO, which operates as a self-governed company run by consumers.

The investment comes in the form of staking, which is the practice of buying native tokens from a company and locking those funds in the project for a specific period of time.

This way, investors cannot pull out their money even if the project starts going down. The idea behind staking is to signal confidence in a project's currency and prospects, as is the case with $DG, Decentral Games' native currency.

Decentral Games is known for developing a string of wager-based games that include NFTs, allowing consumers to earn while playing. Polygon is also a preferred choice for many FinTech institutions exploring the Ethereum blockchain's practical applications.

Meanwhile the play-to-earn model has become popular with titles such as Axie Infinity, a game that allows players to earn NFTs that have soared in value over the past few months, especially in low-income regions.

Even though the exact amount of the investment has remained undisclosed, Polygon's move in Decentral Games comes at a time when blockchain games are entering the mainstream.

Decentral Games also partnered with video gaming giant Atari, which later scrapped plans to launch a proprietary cryptocurrency casino in a bid to introduce new products. Regardless, Decentral Games has more than 40 blockchain games on the market so far.
