Grimes joins NFT rush

Grimes, the artistic moniker of Canadian visual artist and musician Claire Elise Boucher, has entered the NFT industry.

Boucher, who is also Elon Musk’s girlfriend, managed to sell $5.8m worth of tokenized art through the Nifty Gateway in less than 20 minutes.

Boucher's art work is rooted in mythology with an original twist of her own. She has created the WarNymph collection, recounting the story of a goddess who “battles obsoletion” in a make-believe world.

The official description of the artwork adds a few more details: “WarNymph is the Goddess of Neo-Genesis. She battles the destructive force of obsolete ideas and systemic decay that threatens the future. She embodies the power of perpetual regeneration that manifests in a state of infinite infancy where she sheds her old skin of corruption.”

In each artwork, Grimes depicts an angelic infant, some seemingly inspired by popular franchises such as The Matrix or even The Planet of the Apes. The Nifty Gateway hosted an auction that fetched between $77,000 and $111,000 for the artwork. The Nifty Gateway previously sold Micah Johnson's NFTs for $1m.

NFTs, or non-fungible tokens, are unique tokens, which represent a digital piece of art. However, unlike traditional collectibles that can be replicated or produced in bigger numbers, NFTs are purposefully limited in quantity and have a unique identifying number that is baked into the blockchain.

They are one of the future applications of entertainment online. Still, the majority of Internet denizens prefer to explore crypto casinos, such as Bitcasino, FortuneJack and 1xBit.
