Dogecoin donations reach $53,000 for Ukraine

The dogecoin (DOGE) community has become the latest to help with relief efforts in Ukraine.

Donations have been welcomed by Mykhailo Fedorov, the minister of digital transformation for Ukraine, who argued that DOGE is already worth more than the Russian ruble which had lost 30% of its value against the dollar since the war started. DOGE is currently worth around $0.13 as per Cointelegraph Markets Pro.

Fedorov used the opportunity to call on Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, and Billy Markus, DOGE founder, to donate and save lives in Ukraine.

Some support followed their appeal, with roughly $53,000 contributed to Ukraine’s relief and military efforts.

Markus tried to explain why the amounts were fairly small: “Dogecoin folks aren’t usually rich and Dogecoin, itself, is generally used for small transactions, but we are a caring and passionate bunch.”

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian government is going ahead with a Polkadot $DOT airdrop which will be the latest funding effort undertaken by the government to raise more money.

The government thanked people who have donated, and the airdrop itself is expected to take place today at 6 pm +2 GMT.

Fedorov has been very active on Twitter whipping up support and helping build a digital alliance against Russia. One of Ukraine’s key weapons has been the ability to inspire their people and galvanize individuals into action.

Even though Fedorov’s appeals to stop accepting crypto from Russian accounts has fallen on deaf ears, the inflow of crypto donations is one success.
