Blockchain real-time strategy game Dark Forest now has a play-to-earn plugin that has been introduced by community members.
The Broadcast Market addon was introduced to the game on May 31 and is the first to feature a dedicated smart contract that is compatible with the game itself.
The news was dropped by Blaine Bublitz on Twitter, the developer behind Broadcast Market. This event highlights how the community can contribute to blockchain games and introduce improvements that can be implemented without the need for a central authority to step in.
Bublitz said it was the first plugin that he had introduced to Dark Forest. Fellow contributor Jacob Rosental and Bublitz are going to work on more addons for the game moving forward.
In the meantime, Dark Forest players can now earn xDAI currency while playing the game and by broadcasting the locations of different planets.
The way this works is based on the game’s main storyline, which asks of players to discover and capture planets. There are an infinite number of planets that can be conquered, giving potentially unlimited opportunity for players to generate xDAI.
For the sake of balance, a player may only reveal the location of one planet every 24 hours, making sure that the addon is not abused.
The addition of a community generated play-to-earn addon demonstrates the true power of decentralized gaming.
