‘Crypto King’ scams $32m from investors

The self-proclaimed crypto-king Aiden Pleterski has allegedly swindled £35m from investors from a suspected crypto scam.

The 23-year-old man from Whitby Ontario, Canada, is said to have stolen from more than 150 investors who handed over $20m to Pleterski and his company AP Private Equity Limited.

The company was known for investing in cryptocurrency and foreign exchange but was scamming its clients for millions instead.

Pleterski enticed investors with false promises boasting 5-75 returns and calling every week “winning week”.

The victims are now working with Toronto-based fraud recovery lawyer and founder of Investigation Counsel, Norman Goot, to retrieve their stolen funds.

“It's not clear at this time where those funds have gone, even though obviously a lot of it has to do with his lifestyle”, Groot told CTV National News.

Pleterski was known to spend a lot of money according to a bankruptcy trustee's report obtained by CTV National News.

The alleged thief splashed $45,000 per month renting an extravagant home in Burlington, leased several cars; purchased 11 high-end vehicles, and owned watches valued between $200,000 to $400,000.

Around $2.2m has been recovered in assets from two BMWs, two McLarens, and one Lamborghini worth $350,000 alone.

Roughly $606,7773 in cash and bank drafts has been recovered and $32,000 worth of jewellery, according to bankruptcy documents filed in an Ontario Court.
