Bitcoin tweets hit 24-hour record with 143,000 mentions

The buzz about Bitcoin continues and this is evident by the number of tweets that were registered on February 8, according to The Tie CEO Joshua Frank.

Based on the company's estimates, there were more than 143,000 tweets over the 24-hour period, setting a brand-new record.

The sudden upsurge in Bitcoin tweets was attributed to the news that Tesla Motors invested $1.5bn in Bitcoin, which pushed the price of the currency to an all-time high of $47,500 early on February 9, although the currency has fallen again in value slightly.

The social media effect led to sustainable support for the currency too, and it eclipsed the news that Ethereum is launching future contracts, leading to a decrease in ETH's overall volume.

Frank said that Ethereum has lost as much as 50% of its social media volume on February 8, a temporary occurrence while the Bitcoin craze lasts. On the upside, both Ethereum and Bitcoin experienced a surge in their values.
