Animoca Brands has signed a content partnership with EPL Manchester City and Australian Melbourne City FC for digital collectibles powered by the blockchain technology.
Manchester City will include both its men’s and women's clubs along with Melbourne City's outfit, which is also owned by the EPL squad. Animoca will create various casual games to boost engagement on the recreational gaming website GAMEE.
Another part of the deal is the tradable cards that are developed on the NFT digital collectibles subsidiary Quidd. Animoca is no chance partner either, the company has signed up with some pretty impressive organizations already, including Formula One.
Meanwhile, Manchester City previously teamed up with Superbloke, a South Korean blockchain football gaming start-up.
Partnerships between sports clubs and blockchain operators aren't new. Many sports organizations have sought out closer ties with their fans to boost engagement, and blockchain-powered start-ups are often the solution.
Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain both have developed unique Fan Tokens with the help of Chiliz and Socios.com. Thanks to these fan tokens, fans can feel closer to their team and even participate in some of the clubs' decisions.
