Mykhailo Fedorov cancels crypto airdrop

Ukraine’s vice prime minister Mykhailo Fedorov has cancelled the country’s crypto airdrop, that was set to commence on 3 March, at 6pm local time.

Federov tweeted: “After careful consideration we decided to cancel airdrop. Every day there are more and more people willing to help Ukraine to fight back the aggression. Instead, we will announce NFTs to support Ukrainian Armed Forces soon. We DO NOT HAVE any plans to issue any fungible tokens”.

There has been a mass of crypto crowdfunding for the people of Ukraine during the Russian invasion.

Last week, the Ukrainian government’s official Twitter account posted ways in which contributions could be made by crypto users worldwide, announcing it was “now accepting cryptocurrency donations” by way of bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH).

Records state that the government has received more than $10m and $16m in BTC and ETH thus far, with the total amount of cryptocurrency raised equating to more than $50m.
