Manchester City players head into the metaverse

Crypto sponsor OKX has created a metaverse with four Manchester City players signing up to be a part of the experience.

Four Manchester City stars have teamed up with club sponsor and cryptocurrency exchange OKX to head into the metaverse.

Jack Grealish, Ruben Dias, Ilkay Gundogan and Alex Greenwood have all signed up to be part of a brand-new fan experience in the metaverse, which will enable supporters to gain insights from their favourite stars.

OKX, which also sponsors Manchester City’s training kit, has created what it is calling the OKX Collective and will treat fans to specially catered experiences around each player that includes their playing style and personal interests.

The exclusive content will feature training, music and NFT-based digital experiences.

OKX global chief marketing officer Haider Rafique said: “Introducing elite footballers to our newly established metaverse is about sharing the boundless possibilities of Web3 and inviting fans to experience it first-hand.

“Web3 has the potential to be bigger than everything that came before it, and this is just a taste of the incredible experiences it stands to enable.”

Club captain Ilkay Gundogan said: “Football is all about community, and City fans are the best in the world, so we know the OKX Collective will be an incredible place.”

England international Jack Grealish added: “Manchester City and OKX are both winners. Combining football and the metaverse brings fans closer to the action. I’ve had a lot of fun bringing my digital profile to life with the support of the Club and OKX.”

Manchester City first announced its partnership with OKX in July 2022.
