Manchester City and OKX launch limited edition NFT soccer shirts

Fans can mint the NFTs between April 22 and April 25, with each assigned a rarity level

Manchester City, a renowned UK soccer club, has collaborated with OKX, a global cryptocurrency exchange, to introduce limited-edition digital collectibles. These NFTs are commemorative soccer shirts that fans can mint through the OKX app.

The initiative, titled “Unseen City Shirts,” offers fans the chance to own exclusive memorabilia and win exciting prizes. These digital collectibles, designed by artist Christian Jeffery, pay homage to Manchester's heritage by incorporating iconic symbols like the Lancashire Rose and the Manchester Worker Bee.

Fans can mint these NFTs between April 22 and April 25, with each collectible randomly assigned a rarity level – Classic, Rare, or Ultra Rare. Depending on the rarity, fans stand a chance to win prizes such as limited-edition physical versions of the soccer shirt, hospitality tickets to matches, and unique play-on-pitch experiences.

Nuria Tarré, Manchester City’s chief marketing and fan experience officer, emphasized the club’s commitment to engaging tech-savvy audiences and embracing digital ownership. She highlighted the significance of digital ownership in the web3 era, revolutionizing the ownership process.

Haider Rafique, OKX’s chief marketing officer, expressed excitement about engaging Manchester City’s global fanbase through this campaign. He stressed the potential of web3 technology to enhance fan experiences and create utility-based ecosystems.

This collaboration marks another milestone in OKX's efforts to establish itself as a leading crypto lifestyle brand. OKX, founded in 2017 and headquartered in the Republic of Seychelles, serves over 20m customers across 180 international markets, offering trading support for leading cryptocurrencies.

OKX also recently partnered with Chiliz Chain to enhance the Chiliz Chain's governance, security, and scalability, with OKX becoming a validator on the blockchain. This collaboration enabled spot trading for $CHZ tokens on OKX and supports the integration of Chiliz ($CHZ) 2.0 mainnet, furthering the adoption of blockchain technology in sports and entertainment.

The partnership between OKX and Manchester City has seen significant expansion since its inception. OKX became the club’s official training kit partner in 2022 and secured the position of the official sleeve partner in the following year.

The release of the limited edition NFT soccer shirts signifies Manchester City's further exploration into the web3 realm, aiming to enhance fan interaction and participation through digital channels. Fans can look forward to more innovative initiatives in the future as both parties continue to leverage technology to enrich the fan experience.
