Johnny Depp NFTs jump after defamation victory

An NFT collection on OpenSea featuring images of Johnny Depp has surged after the actor won the defamation suit against ex-wife Amber Heard.

The 3,850 NFTs named Never Fear Truth launched in January with a starting price of 0.70 ETH.

Before the publicized defamation trial the collection hadn’t seen much traction since March 11 when its floor price peaked at 1.64 ETH, according to CoinMarketCap.

On Thursday 2 June, following the trial, its floor price is 0.52 ETH ($944).

The Never Fear Truth collection features artwork by Depp, a project verified as authentic by MakersPlace last month.

As well as the 607 pieces highlighting the Pirates of the Caribbean star, several famous faces from Depp’s walk of life are displayed in the collection Friends and Heroes.

These include Al Pacino, Hunter S Thompson, Tim Burton, River Phoenix, Elizabeth Taylor and Heath Ledger.

In a recent description, the NFT collection is the “first public exposure of Johnny's art” focusing on people he knew well and those who inspired him.

“Each image is an intimate reflection of their character in Johnny's eyes; a portrayal of how they have revealed themselves to him.”

Depp is not the first celebrity to enter the NFT space. Many musicians have taken an interest in the marketplace. Artist Snoop Dogg revealed himself as the high-value NFT collector Cozomo de' Medici, and rapper Nas was one of the first investors in Coinbase. Now, rumors are circulating around entrepreneur Kanye West filing for NFT and metaverse trademarks.

A Twitter post from the NFT community (for art and creativity for Johnny Depp) was uploaded, posting a statement made by Depp concerning his defamation trial, you can read it here.
