Immutable raises $60m

The company behind Gods Unchained, an NFT-based collectible card game, has raised $60m.

Immutable, which operates out of Sydney, Australia, has been able to secure a new funding round that will enable the platform to use non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to monetize games and future projects.

This comes at a time when Immutable unveiled its proprietary $GODS token, enabling fans to purchase “voting stakes” in the company and help the firm make decisions about its products.

Consumers will also be able to generate $GODS through the play-to-earn model in future, the company specified.

Commenting on the funding round and the company's general direction, Immutable cofounder Robbie Ferguson said: “The biggest thing we’re looking to build is a set of tools that mainstream developers can use to build NFT games without ever having to worry about blockchain.”

Ferguson is confident that the company can provide for the end-to-end needs of the mainstream client. According to Ferguson, Immutable is unlike other companies because it focuses on building infrastructure rather than cashing in on a fad.

Gods Unchained may want to use NFTs to gamify and add more value for the end-customer but it wants to do so in a sustainable fashion that will last for decades, Ferguson added.

He has dismissed the idea a bear market can slow down Immutable as the company already has experience and is operating with the long-term in mind. To help support its efforts, the firm has also created a layer-2 scalability protocol, dubbed simply Immutable X.

Ferguson hopes that the funding will allow the company to expand from 120 employees presently to 200 over the next few months.
