Hester Peirce: US ‘behind the curve in regulating crypto’

US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) commissioner Hester Peirce has discussed developments around Bitcoin in an interview with Bitcoin.org

Peirce began with a disclaimer that anything she said was her own view and unrelated to views held by her fellow commissioners. However, she was forthright in her opinions on the way the US has been regulating crypto.

“I think we are certainly behind the curve. We've seen other countries take a much more productive approach to regulating crypto”, she said.

However, she added that to see more regulatory measures in place, the US would have to come up with “appropriate frameworks” for the industry.

She was optimistic that this could happen very soon, especially with the SEC electing a new chairman in a few weeks' time. Asked whether a Bitcoin EFT was on the horizon, Peirce simply said that her stance remained unchanged for the past three years – she wasn't certain.

One particularly interesting aspect of the interview touched upon the digital yuan that is now under closer scrutiny by the White House.

Peirce argued that, while China has made strides in developing a central bank digital currency, she wasn't convinced how much competition it posed to private cryptocurrencies or a currency run by the US.

Another interesting trend she revealed was that, in her opinion, the crypto market has reached maturity thanks to the recent push of institutional investment in the sector.

As things are looking up for crypto companies, consumers are able to spend their crypto assets at various casinos, including 1xBit, Bitcasino, and FortuneJack.
