Gala Games hires new SVP of games

Mark Skaggs will oversee a large team of developers updating Town Star to broaden its interaction with a wider range of players.

Game development platform Gala Games has hired American video game producer Mark Skaggs as its new senior vice president of games.

Skaggs has been brought onboard to revamp Gala Game’s free-to-play and play-to-earn (P2E) blockchain game Town Star as it receives a stronger developer team amid a “big update”.

While designers work on the overall Town Star platform, Skaggs is expected to oversee an expanded group of engineers and economists in his new role.

Launched in 2020, Town Star has accumulated a strong fan base where players can compete in the agricultural farming game by completing tasks to earn points and win prizes.

Being a P2E blockchain game, Town Star supports in-game items that are minted as NFTs including in-game currency fully usable as crypto.

Such NFT technology protocols enable players to own, trade or buy in-game for the MANA cryptocurrency, the digital asset token used to pay for goods and services in the virtual browser-based platform, Decentraland.

Among other changes bought by the new appointment of Skagg, Town Star is switching its open course game engines from PlayCanvas to Godot; a change that hopes to bring further interaction and popularity among a wider range of gamers.
