Frontrunner raises $4.7m to build decentralized sports prediction market

Company founder and executive Neil Zhang aims to hone in on “sports and esports markets”.

Decentralized sports prediction market Frontrunner has raised $4.7m in a funding round.

The funds will be used to scale the company’s product and engineering team and streamline its product development and licensing.

The funds were raised by: Entrepreneurs Roundtable Accelerator, FBG Capital, Gaingels, Ledger Prime, Gilgamesh Ventures, NOA Capital, Soma Capital, Susquehanna Private Equity Investments LLP, Toy Ventures and WAGMI Ventures.

Already featuring a stock market-like experience built for the ‘modern sports fan’, Frontrunner provides complex betting odds that can be converted into simple stock prices.

Users can buy shares of their favourite teams and players across NFL, NBA and Premier League markets using crypto through an easy trading interface.

In the near future, the company hopes to roll out ETF-style offerings, giving users the option to invest in their city teams, league divisions, favourite ownership groups, and more.

Frontrunner users will be able to purchase and sell using stablecoins from any chain due to its multichain vision and underlying infrastructure.

The platform also has its sights set on adding new sports and esports like CS: GO, Dota 2, and League of Legends.

Early next year the company aim to introduce new market types like the official baseball league MLB.

Frontrunner founder and CEO Neil Zhang said: “Rather than being a generalized prediction market product, we are launching Frontrunner focusing specifically on sports and esports markets, areas where there is clear demand for new and innovative betting markets”.

“We believe that blockchain brings the sector closer to what users truly want when using a sports prediction market product, and we are working to align our platform with such desires. Frontrunner is able to provide an innovative, user-centered experience, where the focus is purely on bets and profits”.
