Premier League side Everton has become the latest club to jump on the non-fungible token (NFT) bandwagon after agreeing a partnership with Fancurve.
Everton will work with the start up to create digital shirts for supporters of the English top flight club to wear on their digital avatars in the metaverse.
Fancurve recently agreed a similar deal with La Liga side Real Betis but the partnership with Everton marks the first of what it hopes to be many deals in the Premier League.
Fancurve senior vice president of partnerships Chris Cook said: “We are proud to be partnering with such a renowned Premier League club as Everton, with its fanatical fanbase and rich history.
“Here at Fancurve, we’re focused on updating the meaning of sports fandom for today’s digital world and redefining what it will become in the future.
“We are striving to be the largest and most innovative digital wearables platform for sports fans across the globe, and we see this partnership as one that can help Everton and its community grow, as we explore web3 football fandom together.”
Fancurve’s in-house team will be tasked with creating high-end digital ‘unique, photo-realistic custom collections’ with influences taken from Everton’s rich footballing history.
Sold exclusively on Fancurve’s platform, Fancurve’s designs will be different from the club’s official strip ensuring the NFTs are not season dated and also avoiding infringement issues.
A club release insisted a knowledge of cryptocurrency or other technologies would not be needed for fans to engage with the aim to make it as easy as buying a real shirt.
Everton chief commercial and communications officer at Everton said: “We’re really pleased to welcome Fancurve to our growing partnership portfolio and are excited by the innovative opportunities that this partnership will present for the club and our supporters.”
Fancurve investors include former German internationals Mario Gotze and Andre Schurrle.
