Ethereum’s Berlin upgrade scheduled for April

The upcoming Berlin upgrade will go live on the Ethereum mainnet at block 12,244,000 or April 14.

The news was confirmed on Monday by Tim Beiko. Prior to Berlin, though, the Ethereum network will get the Ropsten injection starting tomorrow, March 10.

Following that the Goerli and Rinkeby networks should follow with upgrades one week apart each, on March 17 and March 24 respectively.

All Ethereum node operators have been advised to hurry up and make sure they are running Berlin compatible versions.

The statement noted: Ethereum node operators should upgrade their nodes prior to the fork block on the networks they want to participate in. Due to block time variability, it is recommended to update several days before the expected date.”

The update is targeting four specific Improvement Protocols, including EIP-2565, 2929, 2718, and 2930. All are designed to optimize various aspects of the mainnet and to lead to scalability, lower gas costs and new types of transaction types.

Berlin is the biggest upgrade to come after the Istanbul and Muir Glacier upgrades which were carried out in 2019 and 2020.

The most recent upgrade, Ethereum 2.0, in December 2020 has given the network a good footing and allows it to adapt itself to extraordinary conditions caused by increase in traffic and usage.

Meanwhile, Ethereum remains one of the most preferred cryptocurrencies at crypto casinos and can be used to play at Bitcasino, BitStarz and FortuneJack.
