According to the country’s regulator, the official launch will happen on September 1, 2021, because the Remote Gambling Act was delayed until March 1, 2021. As a reminder, the launch was already delayed before in July.
Once the Gambling Act comes into effect, online operators will be able to set-up shop and launch their operations in earnest, but no sooner than the stated period.
Minister for Legal Protection Sander Dekker confirmed the changes in the schedule in a letter to the lower house of the Dutch parliament.
According to Dekker, the decision has allowed every operator looking to launch an online gaming product enough time to actually adapt and prepare a compliant product.
However, he also cautioned that there may be a slight delay to come as well, although the regulator and government would cross that bridge when they came to it, Dekker reassured.
The government is still awaiting the approval of the European Commission before it can continue with the move in earnest.
Several criteria have to be met before online gambling can be launched, and that includes the effective handling of addiction prevention, setting maximum deposit limits and maximum bankroll, among other preventative measures to avoid addiction among the population.
Furthermore, advertising will be prohibited between 6 AM and 9 PM. Expanding the online gambling in the Netherlands is a great opportunity for blockchain gaming operators to join the fresh market.
Industry leaders such as 1xBit Casino, CasinoFair, and BitCaisno.io will surely all have something to offer to players in the market.
