David Bowie NFT sells for $127,000

All proceeds from the sale will go to an organization helping support global poverty.

The David Bowie estate has partnered with OpenSea to sell an exclusive non-fungible token (NFT).

The Bowie Estate’s collection named ‘Bowie on the Blockchain’ sold on Monday, October 3, for 96.5 ETH ($127,000).

All of the profits from the sale will be donated to CARE, the international humanitarian organization focused on tackling poverty and hunger, encouraged by Bowie’s wife Iman, a global advocate for the cause.

The 15-piece NFT collection features artwork from nine NFT artists and demonstrates an array of colourful designs in aid of the late British mogul’s career.

However, the NFT highlight is in collaboration with 19-year-old artist FEWOCiOUS and displays an animated video alongside a physical 7ft sculpture dressed in one of Bowie’s infamous suits.

“I thought it was so cool that he was always what he wanted to be. And created a world that he wanted to live in. That's really the feeling I try to capture in my art”, said FEWOCiOUS.

The collection will pay homage to Bowie’s legacy and musical career, demonstrating how digital art and its communities can reshape the career and success of the artist.
