Dapper Labs teams up with LaLiga

Dapper Labs, the company behind the successful NBA Top Shot NFT marketplace, has revealed a brand-new partnership with LaLiga, Spain's top soccer league.

As a result, Dapper Labs is also teaming up with the league's clubs, including Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid.

Dapper Labs is establishing a dedicated marketplace for LaLiga as well, which will be introduced on the company's proprietary Flow blockchain. The project is slated for launch in 2022.

The move coincides with an investment round that added $250m to Dapper Labs' valuation, which shot up to $7.6bn, according to a source cited by Decrypt.

The company has been mustering interest from top sporting personalities, including NBA's Kevin Durant and Michael Jordan and it previously concluded a $305m funding round in March.

Moving forward, LaLiga fans will now be able to claim highlights of games in the form of NFTs which act as a deed of ownership, essentially telling the rest of the iInternet denizens that a certain image or video belongs to you and you alone.

Taking on LaLiga is definitely a plus, but Dapper Labs would have to come up with a way to make these NFTs appealing as the NBA usually has more highlight-worthy moments and plays than soccer, which tends to be slower-paced and have simpler scoring.

Yet, LaLiga feels confident that it can capitalize on the ongoing rivalries in the tournament which have been going for well over 100 years.
