BHA fears fan delay following latest COVID restrictions

The BHA is responding to growing financial pressure and the latest announcement by Prime Minister Boris Johnson who revealed on September 22 that the UK is facing a second wave of COVID-19 infections.

According to PM Johnson, the country will now need to comply with several measures, including a new curfew hour that will suspend operations at all entertainment and non-essential businesses after 10pm.

The BHA fears that this will now delay the return to public sports events, which is a “serious blow” to the organisation and its ability to remain sustainable and in operation.

The BHA reassured that if given green light, it can run operations and events safely and without posing risks to live spectators:

“The exemplary response from the spectators in following the measures we put in place has shown that organised events can be run safely.”

The organisation reminded that it is the second-most attended sport event in the country and that millions of people enjoy the races.

Now that access to the events is limited and the government threatens to suspend them altogether, the livelihoods of thousands of people are at risk, The BHA explained.

While The BHA acknowledged that there is little it can do to reverse the government’s course of action, the organisation said that it would at least seek some form of financial relief issued by the government for the industry.

Meanwhile, fans have been shifting their preferences to online sports betting portal such as Sportsbet.io, Cloudbet, and 1xBit to place a remote wager on still available sports events.
