Binance restores Dogecoin withdrawals

Leading crypto exchange Binance experienced a brief “withdrawal” function outage that was brought on by the DOGE wallet upgrade.

The exchange struggled with DOGE withdrawals over the weekend, prompting Elon Musk to take a swing at it.

By early Monday, Binance had DOGE withdrawals up and running again to the relief of customers who kept receiving messages saying they would not be able to cash out any DOGE in the coming 17 days.

To make matters worse, 1,634 Binance users re-experienced old transactions because of an issue with older DOGE wallet versions.

Binance hurried to offer an explanation, describing the factors leading to the malfunction as “unlikely” but evidently possible.

“In short, if 1) your platform had listed DOGE all the way back in 2019, at v1.14.0 2) had transactions stuck in the wallet 3) had upgraded the wallet to v1.14.2 4) AND then updated to v1.14.5 — you can have an issue”, it said.

All of those factors had happened at the same time, leading to a temporary DOGE withdrawal outage.

Commenting on Twitter, Musk flagged the malfunction as “shady” and said that while he had not encountered the issue, he was arguing the case for other DOGE users.

Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao assured Musk that all will be fixed and thanked him for flagging the issue when he did.

DOGE is just one of many meme coins on the market, but it’s the most successful one in terms of overall popularity.

Even though, it’s seeing a lot of competition from Shiba Inu, a cousin token unrelated to the original project, DOGE has been the only “joke” coin to be endorsed by some serious entrepreneurs as a potential alternative to Ethereum and Bitcoin.

Musk and Mark Cuban both seem to endorse the coin, although are cautious about encouraging people to invest too heavily in crypto. Musk argues that overreliance on crypto is not a good idea.
