Atari has partnered with Virtually Human Studios (VHS) for the opportunity to deepen its ties in the blockchain and NFT gaming verticals.
VHS, which is the creator of skill-based and strategy game Zed Run, operated on the Ethereum network, allows players to use non-fungible tokens distributed as “cryptographically unique racehorses.”
Moving forward, the two companies will introduce a number of collectibles designed after Atari’s own memorable games, such as Pong, Missile and Asteroids, and extend them to consumers across the Zed Run gaming platform.
The partnership will also allow VHS to feature Atari’s intellectual property, such as logos and game assets, across Zed Run in a bid to boost brand visibility.
Zed Run will debut a temporary Atari Breeding Program which will have consumers able to spawn unique offspring for a limited time.
Atari is looking to demonstrate how traditional and crypto gaming can come close together, and the partnership will naturally see the proprietary Atari token arrive on Zed Run. Atari will sponsor numerous Zed Run tournaments with bonus tokens awarded to players.
Atari CEO Fred Chesnais said that his company saw significant potential in NFT gaming on the blockchain. According to Chesnais, VHS is a great example of how far companies can reach in developing blockchain-based entertainment product.
Atari has faced some skepticism with regards to the feasibility of its own token as well, with value see-sawing and not inspiring enough trust. Yet, Chesnais has been convinced that in many ways it remains the future of the company.
